Ok. Got the first piece of my costume done. The spalder and lames came out a bit flatter than I would have liked, but for never having done anything like this, Im thrilled. Tomorrow, Ill make the pauldron/breast plate. Ive decided my character is a sky pirate, and probably one who works in an engineroom but also has combat duty. So I wanted the armor to look battle scarred and extremely distressed. I fireblued the steel and welded the edges up kindof jagged. really excited about this. I did the best I could to stay true to actual medieval armor in terms of thickness and design, but theres modern cheats all throughout (store bought brass rivets, MIG welds, sheet steel, washers, etc.)
