Ok I am not a Christian and I strongly dislike rampant consumerism. So why do I love Christmas almost as much as Halloween? I could go on and explain that most Christmas traditions are actually pagan in origin and say I am celebrating yule. That would not be entirely honest though even though I consider myself a pagan atheist. The reason I love it is because it is a festival about being generous, about giving and helping the less fortunate. Just because a load of marketing cockwombles want to make it about greed doesnt mean I have to pay them any heed. Its a day of the year we are supposed to be nicer to each other and I am all for that. So no matter if you believe in god, gods, spirits, or rationalism or even nihilism, happy whatever you want to call it (a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet).
