Ok.. I have been asked numerous times what I think about the dog park incident.. so here it is so I dont have to keep answering this question. Anything with teeth can bite. I do not like dog parks. Most people are clueless about dog behavior and warning signs. People go to these parks and let thier dogs go. Then they socialize or get glued to thier phone while thier dog is off in a corner a 100 feet away. Most dogs will show signs prior to biting. Some dont. Its the responsibility of the dog owner to know his or her dog tell tale signs. Most people cant tell an aggressive posture from a play/submissive posture. Its okay if a dog doesnt like other dogs.. I dont like every person I come across so I dont expect every dog to like every other dog they come into contact with. Its our responsibility to be aware of these things and keep our dogs safe. This Dane doesnt deserve to die. This incident shouldnt have made the media.. these things happen. Its terrible yes.. but when there are hundreds of dogs interacting things are bound to happen. The Dane can live a healthy and happy life without the company of other dogs. Its that simple. The owner that left made a bad snap decision. We all make bad decisions. Hell I do hourly! I do not condemn him.. he/she was probably in shock from what happened. So people need to stop the judgements... no one is perfect. The Dane came from a local rescue.. they are just as devestated as the rest of us. They said he never showed any problems before.. so it was a fluke that the media decided to make it propaganda and most people had to pitch in thier 2 cents. We see this often in Pit Bulls. People suddenly lose thier minds and begin to over sensationalize every aspect.. he without sins.. cast the first stone? Years ago I lost a dog in a dog fight. I didnt get out of bed for 2 months.. I was devestated. I wasnt home when it happened.. but again.. when you deal with hundreds of dogs.. these things happen. I did my best to keep them all safe and sometimes your best isnt enough. I have chickens that kill other chickens. Who knew that chickens can be so terrible? I didnt.. but now I do so I take appropriate precautions. Ive seen horses ripped open with gashes 2 feet wide and 8 inches deep from another horse.. these things happen. They are animals! They have teeth! These situations happen and it doesnt make the chicken or horse a canidate for euthanasia.. it just means that we, as thier caretakers must keep them safe. My heart breaks for Buddys owners.. I know personally what its like to lose a dog to a situation like this. So please stop with the criticism.. you have no clue how you would react if the situation was yours to deal with. Educate yourselves. Keep your animals safe.
