Ok, I have been nominated to give my reasons for voting Yes, - TopicsExpress

Ok, I have been nominated to give my reasons for voting Yes, cheers John Nostie. If the people of Scotland did not have a different set of priorities and if we had the same voting demographic, I would say we are better together, but neither is the case. We are more inclined to socialism, liberalism and less to conservatism, we have very different resource base and geography, being smaller and quite out of the way for the bulk of Britain, I believe no one else cares as much or is as qualified to make the decisions about our future as we are. I am a Highlander first and a Scot second, and I have never considered myself British! Though I am not anti English and I think the rUK should remain our closest friends and allies, and that we will maintain those functional parts of the union which serve Scotland and the rUK equally well. I dont consider myself a nationalist, I will not take pride in the deeds of others or claim to be better than anyone by virtue of where I was born. From the taming of the savages to the building of empire, I can only apologize to the countless victims of our common heritage! I believe we require to change almost everything about Nation states at quite a profound level. I dont think that independence will in-itself bring those changes, however our own parliament with full powers offers a mechanism which is not presently available as a subordinate part of a much larger machine. With independence we only need to convince the majority of the people of Scotland, we can then place that task on our agenda. As members of the UK we have 10 times as many people to convince to get our aspirations on the table. And if just 10% of the people (who may never have even been to Scotland) think differently, we are outnumbered! If we dont address that democratic deficit, then all else that we may aspire to becomes ten times less possible! All our great achievements become mute when the atom is released into the world, be it a bang or a drip, the Middle East or the Clyde, the price is measured in half life’s of hundreds of thousands! If we truly are highly evolved as a species then let us prove we are above this shit. Getting rid of bombs is only the start of the battle, no one has ever decommissioned a nuke power station, nor has anyone ever figured how to deal with the waste! But we can start with the bombs, then create alternatives to the power stations, then perhaps our tiny Nation will have done something meaningful, as opposed to just being complicit! Perhaps within 200,000 years, someone will figure out what to do about the waste! Land ownership demonstrates and perpetuates the grotesque unequal distribution of wealth from which the vast majority suffer. Scotland has recently been pioneering land reform, although in its infancy, this process offers a new model for community ownership and resource redistribution. This process will become a priority for a Scottish parliament not being hindered by those vested interests in Westminster (most of whom own the land!). Priorities for a Scottish government would be quite different from those of Westminster, renewable s, fishing, forestry, small businesses and rural development are disproportionately more important in Scotland, we would prioritize Scottish interests which might be of little consequence elsewhere in Britain! I could make a very long list from the bedroom tax and free prescriptions to illegal wars, what that list would show, is that we CAN, and given the chance, we WILL, do things differently. This world and our children NEED US to do things so very differently. I can not see this opportunity to think and act differently being offered by any other peaceful mechanism. Our electorate has never been so inspired, our political literacy has never been better, our children have never needed us to change the way the world is more than they need us to now. So if not now, when? If not us, who? Life itself is uncertain, but I am pretty sure will we never have this opportunity again. So I am voting Yes x I nominate (if you wish to do it!)
