Ok, I know, this is facebook, and I dont get personal on here very often. But something touched me very deeply tonight, and I want to use the platform I have here to speak to as many as I can. Theres nothing fun or funny about this post, and I understand if you skip it. But, Im posting anyway because its really very important to me. Stephen Colbert had Phil Klay as one of his last guests on his show: a Marine veteran who served in Iraq from Jan 07-Jan 08--for those keeping score at home, I served from Jan-Jun 07--and hes written a book called Redeployment thats won the national book award. I had very different experiences than he did, but in some ways they werent so different, and Im humbled by the talk Ive linked below. If you dont watch the whole thing, please watch from 4:35-5:40 (at the very least, 4:57-5:14). And if you dont watch it at all, please just.. in the future, pay attention to where your elected officials are sending young men and women to kill and die. And how they treat us after we leave the service. Ive told stories from Iraq & from the Kyrgyz Republic in 2013. But I havent shared the ones that really broke my heart with many people at all, and Phil Klay makes me think maybe I should reconsider that. If YOU are a veteran of one of these wars and you havent shared your stories with anyone, please think about it. If not, and if you have any questions for me, please ask. or buy Klays book. I read a little in an airport bookstore and couldnt go on. He nailed it. barnesandnoble/w/redeployment-phil-klay/1115811829?ean=9781594204999 https://youtube/watch?v=8AZQBPN3Lek
