Ok. Too many people are doing this, so now I have to say something. I dont mean to step on anyones toes but Id be remiss if I didnt say anything. You all might have seen statuses (sp?) on FB claiming that the poster won $7000 in the lottery, or has diarrhea, or is being cheated on by their significant other, or whatever. As some of you may have noticed, upon replying the status the jokesters will inform you that its for breast cancer awareness, post something revolting/gross/outrageous too! As someone who actually works with cancer patients, Im gonna have to go ahead and remind you people that what youre doing is reprehensible for several different reasons. Firstly, cancer doesnt need awareness. Pretty sure anyone over the age of like 9 has heard of cancer. Unless theres a few hermits out there going whats this?! Theres such a thing as boob cancer?!?, your prank isnt really achieving anything. Secondly, pranks are awesome. I love them. I prank my wife any chance I get. What I DONT do is prank people under the guise of some worthy cause. Prank your friends all you want, just dont try to act its to support a cause you never made any tangible effort to further. Its kinda shitty. Which brings me to the third point. The following actually benefit cancer patients/cancer research: - donating to cancer institutions, such as the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation; - participating in cancer runs; - volunteering at a cancer centre. The following does not benefit cancer patients/cancer research: - HEY EVERYONE I HAVE DIARRHEA LOL UR WELCOME CANCER PATIENTS! IM TOTALLY HELPING YOU AND NOT AT ALL MAKING LIGHT OF YOUR STRUGGLE! Come on, guys. Lets be reasonable.
