Ok everyone, listen up. PLEASE READ THIS.....ALL. I dont normally do this. This is something pretty cool, kinda cheesy but bear with me on it. Take a few minutes and read this for me. All my friends know that I do a lot of volunteer work, get to do cool things because of it and really take what I do, seriously and to the heart. I cut up, have too much fun, cant always stay focused and take things for granted sometimes but those that know me, know that I have a big heart and will always give more than I take. I had a long shift today. On top of that, I was in a bad mood and had been treated like crap by some of my managers and co-workers just due to the stress. My phone had died. I worked through the rain and worked hard. I picked up extra hours at the end of my shift as well so when I got off I was more than ready to go home and still had to finish decorations for the 4th, eat, and run a dog sitting gig. On top of that, I had to be up at 6am for parade. My last hour and a half of my shift I noticed two cars parked at a gas pump. Totally forgot about them and glanced to my right as I pulled out of my parking space and noticed both hoods were up. Me being me I drove over and asked if they needed help. They did so I tried problem solving it with them and had no luck. We spent 30 minutes there and decided it was a lost cause. It was a mom, dad, kids and grandmother and it was around 11:30, they just wanted to get home with their groceries and sleep for the family reunion tomorrow that they were throwing. I offered, like I do to everyone, to tow them home. The first words out of their mouth was how much? I told them not to worry about it and that I just wanted to get them home. They bartered with me, flashed cash, and tried every trick in the book and I still said no. I told them that I had been in their shoes before, on the side of the road, broken down, except no one stopped to help and I had to figure out towing and a ride on my own so the least I could do is tow them home since I had the gear, a vehicle capable of it and didnt mind. I went through the standard procedures for being towed with a tow strap and they were already familiar with them. I had the dad ride with me to give me directions. They lived in the polar opposite direction as me but I went through with it. We had three cars, my Jeep, their broken down one and the one that was the moms and they were trying to jump with. We all had our flashers on and didnt do more than 20. People threw up the finger, cussed us out for going slow and tried running us off the road but we continued on and all. The dad and I talked about what we did to make money, the volunteer work I do, plans for the 4th and pretty much skimmed over most things in a casual conversation. We got to their house and I helped them push it into their driveway. They offered money, food, gas, drinks and even a ride back if I didnt want to drive. I turned them all down and said that I didnt mind it, and i had been there before. By this time, it was 12:30. I told them the only thing I wanted them to do was to pay it forward. Do something for someone else and help them out and if they were determined to repay me, do it like that. I guess it just really hit differently tonight, not sure why. But moral of the story and why I had you read this, if you still are is, do something for someone else sometime soon. Help someone pay for groceries, thank a veteran, volunteer somewhere, help someone across the street, or anything, just do good. I get thanked a lot for what I do and its always one of the coolest and best feelings ever but nothing tops the action of helping someone. Please take time soon and do something for someone. It may come back around and be good for you too. Just make a difference and do something. I promise you wont regret it and itll leave you with the best feeling ever.
