Ok folks I would like to take this time to thank my two volunteers who have been able to come out and help when they have time, THANK YOU ZOE AND DALENE !! YOU GUYS MAKE MY LIFE AND JOB A LITTLE EASIER. DAVE ALSO, I took in a small black and tan Welsh Corgi mix this morning around seventh street and south Fawn he was in the trash foraging, he is friendly and belongs to someone. If you know who he belongs to please have them contact City Hall and they will contact me so we can get him back home. Our return black lab with the hip issues was picked up again last night, but the owner called PD and asked them to contact me so they could get him back KUDOS for doing it legal this time!!! I have been empowered to write citations for animal violations now, and I will do just that, but keep in mind everyones situation is different I can also give a warning only as long as it is justifed, I do believe in giving someone a chance unless the animal in question has been abused and or is vicious then I will cite and remove the animal if possible. I have been asked on numerous occasions if there is a leash law in the city of Caney YES THERE IS !! Any dog that is not on a leash is considered a dog at large you must be in control of your animal at all times and he must be on a leash when in public, and that includes the park folks. There is a citation for dog at large even tho it is small with the court costs added to it it can be pretty hefty. Anyone coming out to the shelter to pick up their animal will need to bring proof that that animal has been registered in the city. The cost for that is $7 for a new animal plus you must prove the animal has had all of its shots. Two dollars for a renewal of your tags. Pretty simple stuff to avoid those big fines. At some point the shelter will begin charging for boarding fees for those that have animals out there, if he or she does not get picked up and has to be euthanized then that fee will be passed on to the owner. All of this can be avoided by just being a responsible pet owner and knowing the citys codes. Thanks Dave
