Ok people I am back and I can truly call myself a part of the ultra running community. I not only have done the distance but now I have volunteered, crewed and paced at an ultra event. I volunteered yesterday for 7 hours in the heat at the Cool Moon 100 miler at the knickerbocker aide station. Then while I was hanging at the start finish line I saw a 100 mile runner struggling with running those trails at night. I said if she wanted I would go out with her and do my 14 miler with her. The RD approved and at 3am this morning I went out with her, those trails are NO JOKE during the day they are harder at night! 2 steep hills (pig farm and western states training trail) with just a headlamp CRAZY! when the sun came up she got a second wind and took off and I continued at my own pace ( I did my job of keeping her moving and alive on those trails) I enjoyed both the beauty and challenge these trails offered as I have only completed mod-hard trail races, This was a hard-very difficult race and I am glad I was able to push myself to another PR (1st 14 miler, lol), help another runner and learn from some of the best of the ultra world. I am going to use their tips next week for my 100k at RDV
