Ok people of Facebook, I need your help. We had a contractor come - TopicsExpress

Ok people of Facebook, I need your help. We had a contractor come out yesterday to give us a quote for running a gas line to our laundry room so we could buy a gas dryer instead of an electric dryer. The quote came back at $650 ($300 parts, $350 labor). I did some calculations and figured out in our best case scenario we would make our money back in 7 years, but more likely in 8 or 9 years. Additionally, gas dryers run about $50-$100 more expensive to buy than electric dryers, so add another year on to recoup that extra cost. Im not sure how long we will be in this house, but I cant imagine if our careers go in the direction I hope/expect them to go, that we will still be here in 7-10 years. I am leaning towards going with the electric dryer right now, but I want to make sure Im not making a bad decision. Is there any quality related or other reason not related to cost for the utility for getting a gas dryer over an electric dryer?
