Ok, so......I was awakened this morning by the sound of a strange sort of clicking sound obviously very close to my head. I ignored it, of course, for the first several times I heard it, then realized it was probably something I should look into. Indeed. It was my phone ringing with some strange ringtone that I didnt recognize, and it was my daughter Courtney calling from work to say good morning to her little one still asleep in the room down the hall from me. Ooops! We were about to be late for preschool! I ran to give the phone to Piper, then got moving quickly to find suitable clothes for her, make the sandwich she needed for her lunch, make breakfast, brush teeth, etc. Done. Well, sort of. Because I had anticipated the roofers being here at 8:00 to finish the roof, as they had been yesterday, I moved my car last night around the circle and past my neighbors house so I wouldnt get penned in again. Good thinking, bad timing...but not tooo bad....we were just a few minutes late. Whew. Ok, so then, when I returned home at 9:30 and the roofers were still not there, I pulled my car into the garage, believing that maybe they thought it was going to continue to rain and they would finish tomorrow. Nope. After an hour or so of mindless puttering around here, thinking that this upper resperatory thing that has driven me crazy for the past two weeks is taking a toll not only on my lungs/sinus/strength, but on my brain as well, I decided that maybe I needed to go back to bed for a few minutes and start the day over...peacefully this time. Uhhh....nope. The roofers arrived, of course, within seconds of my drift into dreamland, and between the pounding, climbing, yelling, and of course, dogs barking, I realized that there truly is no rest for the wicked, and I got busy with other things. With Danny and the guys in Myrtle Beach this week, my girls all working and no responsibility to pick up kids this afternoon, it wasnt unusual for me to not hear from them in the middle of the day, so, I thought maybe Id run some errands. Oh boy. Nope. The roofing truck and tons of roof garbage were being swept into the back of the roofers truck that was, of course, blocking my driveway. The one that led from the garage attached to my house; you know, the one with my car inside. OK.... So, I turned on Netflix, watched a documentary or two, (semi-consciously, I confess) and then at 3:00, I realized that it was very very quiet....and I looked outside, discovered that they had not only finished the roof, they had cleaned up the mess, left the yard and driveway looking better than they found it, and left. I was anxious to let Danny know what quick work they had made of our roof project, and reached for my phone, which I believed to be charging on the table next to the sofa.... Hmmmmm....no.....maybe upstairs? Nope. Maybe in my car? No. In the basement by the laundry? In the kitchen? The dining room? My workroom? In the basket of clothes waiting for Piper in the hallway? By the dog stuff? On the porch? NO! I have looked everywhere. For three hours, I looked everywhere. I got on FB and messaged my kids to call me to see if I could hear my phone anywhere (oddball ring and everything) No no no. Well, I thought, perhaps I dropped it into Pipers backpack in the handoff at school this morning. Maybe while Im out running errands now, Ill stop by Courtneys house and check with her. Right after dinner. Uh oh. My KEYS are missing, too! This is not good, but it is a clue....but Im tired of looking for them, too (for an hour or so), so I grabbed the second set, went to my car, and drove to the store. When I got home, I realized that when I got home this morning, I didnt go into the house through the basement and in, as I had thought, but I had left the garage door open (the roofers asked me to do that yesterday so they didnt damage the garage door) and come up the steps in front of the house and in through the front door. Yes! Another clue, more retracing of steps....and YES! There, on the first deck post, in the pouring rain, were my lovely, lovely keys! Yep...just the keys. As I stood on my front steps, admiring the lovely job the roofers did in shoveling up the mess theyd made and how nicely they had tidied everything up, I realized that it had not been ME who put those keys there; someone had found them and placed them there for me to find, because they had been found by someone, somewhere in the yard, driveway, wherever....and were returning them to me. And of course, with all of that shoveling and raking and cleaning up, I have to assume that they were found because they jingled when scooped into a shovel...a sound my phone (and its strange new click-tone) would not do. So, unless I am granted some new, small miracle (I think Ive probably used up my miracle quotient by now) I have somehow managed to lose an iPod, an iPad, a video camera, and two iPhones! Im a little nervous about this new laptop Im using....and Im sleeping in tomorrow morning!!
