Ok, so Im starting to study my notes from BYU Education week, so Im going to share a little of what I learned as I go through them. These are just the things that stood out to me, these post might be touch long but Im doing it for anyone who might be interested in the information. One of the first classes was about teaching our kids to work, and the dangers of doing to much for them, here are my favorite quotes. Whenever I would see a child who could not or would not do their homework, chores around the house, or errands, it usually would boil down to a problem with the parents. For many parents it was simply easier to do the work themselves so that they do not have to listen to their children whine, complain, or murmur. In 90% of these cases children dont work because the parents dont follow through. They ask David to do something, but David knows that if he stalls long enough Mother will eventually do it for him. Sure, he gets lecture but she still does his work. Fair exchange as far as he is concerned. Victor B. Cline How to make your child a Winner 1985. pg 164 Those who do to much for their children will soon find they can do nothing with their children. So many children have been so much done for they are almost done in. Neil A. Maxwell Ensign May 1975 pg. 102 So we got 6 principles to follow to help teach our kids to work. 1. Be the Example. 2. Work with our Kids. 3. Start at an Early age. 4. Make work fun. 5. Help them succeed. 6. Create a need.
