Ok, the Eaglets were super two days ago and theyll likely be super on Friday as well. Yes, the guys can bring the cup home. But I ask, AFTER THAT NKO, WHAT NEXT? I see Nigerians getting hyped about the prospects of this boys winning the trophy, almost forgetting the essence of the competition. Have we not been thrilled like this before? Have we not won it before? What did we bring out of the winning teams, how many players did we discover that moved on to greatness? How many served us long enough in the same proportion that they do other countries? Yes, this current team is believed to be the youngest weve ever had. That does not necessarily mean theyre within the age bracket. I give it to this team that they play arguably the most beautiful football weve ever seen from a Nigerian underaged team. But I think were putting too much pressure on them if truly they are young. If you ask me, Ill say winning the Under 17 competition is not worth all this hype. The families of these boys by now will subtly be putting pressure on them to find clubs in Europe so that they can become their bread winner (that is if they are not already). You see legislators talking about winning the cup like this is the height of football achievement. Even the media are not helping matters. The president may even flash cash and hand out National awards to boys (who are suppose to have other better ways of encouragement, players who are even overaged anyway. Lol). Talk of a nation that loves leaving the essence and prefer celebrating mediocrity!
