Ok this is my rant for Sunday and it started as a reply to an ongoing thread about unearned pensions, golden parachutes, etc, in response to the current Congressional spending bill allowing some employers to attack earned pensions - I may have expanded my reply a bit, but here it is: And let me throw in another factoid about those of us Police/Fire getting our pension - back in the day when we were paid less than $10,000 a year to patrol the streets many Police/Fire Personnel had second, and sometimes third jobs to provide for their families and make ends meet (for some people in this day in age that is heresy). Nevertheless, when they got their checks for these other jobs they paid in full freight for Social Security - however, when the go to collect Social Security they are now whacked with the GPO - Government Pension Offset which means they will probably be whacked, again, with a reduction of approx. 66% of their alleged earned benefit. So how is that fair that you pay in full freight but only receive a dribble in return - yet you wont see a politician of any party (I really dont like any politician as if their lips are moving they are lying) - I think it would then be appropriate to refund those monies to these people - NOTE: When they worked these second/third jobs to support their families they did not cry and whine for $15.00 an hour, etc - they stepped up to the plate and did what they had to do to provide for their families.
