Ok, time for one of my Whenever I take a notion rants. Ive heard a lot of folks talk about whats wrong with kids today. The following is merely my opinion, take it for what its worth. The problem with kids now days is parents are too busy to take time to understand what their children are doing. They are at school all day with teachers who feel their hands are tied when it comes to discipline. The reason? To many parents feel their children are angels and could do no wrong. If their child has a discipline problem or if their child is failing in school it must be the teachers fault. Sorry, but my girls were not angels, I was perfectly aware of what they were capable of. They got their asses busted if they did something they shouldnt at home and if I found out about anything they did at school. Sorry parents, but your kids are not perfect and they are not angels. They are human and subject to the same temptations, vanities and emotions as the rest of us. They will lie, cheat and steal if you allow them to do so and get away with it. Children have to be taught right from wrong. They have to be taught respect for others. They have to be taught PERIOD. Todays children know more about Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and Honey Boo Boo than they know about Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and Clara Barton. We as parents have to be role models. We have to let a child know when it steps out of line. We have to instill in our children, compassion and respect, not an attitude of entitlement. I heard this years ago and it holds true today. We are raising a generation of kids that have been Spocked when they should have been spanked By the way, thats Benjamin Spock, not Spock from Star Trek. Parents, dont get an attitude if your teacher sends home note about your child having behavior problems. GET INVOLVED!! Find out what the problem is. Children need attention and they will get it one way or another. Sometimes they do things just to get attention. Oh and playing video games with your kids is ok, but getting involved in their learning is better.
