Okay I am on the warpath. Because of The stupid privacy laws medical providers are not allowed to call your name over a PA system. So at this hospital they come out a set of doors - on each side of the waiting room - and call your name. If they come out the doors opposite of the side you are waiting, combined with over the noise of 60+ sick people talking, crying, puking, coughing and such, it is hard to hear the person calling the name. As I found out tonight, if you fail to hear them and jump up, they then take you out of the system as if you do not exist. After you have waited for about 4 hours until you have pee running down your leg when you go to tell the desk that you need 3 minutes to go to the bathroom in case they are about to call your name. You get told you missed being called so they have to put you back in the system. One phone call - after my verbal explosion - got us seen immediately. So to be clear: the privacy laws forbid them from using any type of speaker system to call you, they can just yell (or not) from their mouth, and you could conceivably die while they protect your privacy. Stupid. No doubt my legislators will be hearing from me...
