Okay. Im going to claim a point of personal privilege here. No one, and I mean NO ONE, is going to play the shame card with me about supporting the troops. I have consistently supported the troops, demanding that funding for the VA, the GI Bill and pensions be made available as promised. Appparently, so many of these bloviating war hawks believe that supporting the troops means cheering them on when they are marched away as cannon fodder in the latest war du jour. For me, supporting the troops means being deliberate, serious and concise about the use of military force and being ready to provide for the long-term care and successful reintegration into civilian life of our veterans and their dependents. Any spineless jackass can wave a flag while breathing a sigh of relief that someone else is being dispatched to do his folly. It takes a patriot to insist that a man or women who comes back maimed and broken will still be our top priority when the next war begins. So, a word to the wise, dont you dare ever tell me in patronizing tones that Im not supporting the troops. I support them enough to realize they are in fact human beings, not bots in some depraved video game.
