Okay... Ive calmed down now. Allow me to articulate why Im so pissed about the New 3DS. Im pissed because its an Apple iDevice style iterational update that essentially kills off the older models. I can handle integrating additional thumbstick and extra buttons from the Circle Pad Pro Peripheral. No thats not what pisses me off. What pisses me off is that Nintendo gave the New 3DS a faster processor that will to be required for new exclusive games. And yes I DO think that devs will split the base over a new processor. If history has taught us anything; its that as soon as there is a new processor devs shift focus to take advantage of it. Splitting the user base over peripheral is one thing. Most devs wont and dont split the user base by designing their games around peripherals. However they usually do tack on support for such peripherals. However I can DEFINITELY see devs splitting the base in order to take advantage of a faster processor as it decreases workload on their end. The PC and Mobile Markets are RIFE with and serve as perfect examples of this. Why do I think they would be willing to? In short, because it saves them time and money. Thanks to a faster processor they can do more and dont have to worry about Optimization or bottleneck issues nearly as much. This saves devs & publishers both Time and Money. I think this will hit downloadable titles ESP hard as many of them are made by mobile devs that split user bases regularly due to their markets iterational nature. Theres also performance differences to consider. Even if the new games ARE compatible with the old version theres no certainty they will run very well on old devices as they are designed primarily for the new processor. Again the iPhone & PC Game Market is a perfect example of this.
