Okay, Ive known this for a LONG time but like most women Ive let - TopicsExpress

Okay, Ive known this for a LONG time but like most women Ive let society and the stupid traditions of man dictate how I live and how I think of myself and my body. But heres a biological truth, in spite of the fact that we all have similar DNA and biological similarities, we are not all the same. Unlike most women, I have weird endocrine issues which cause me to have 5x the highest normal level of testosterone for a women...more on par for the low level of a man in fact. So what does this mean for me? I build muscle like crazy! I used to avoid doing exercises that built muscle because I do bulk up unlike what happens to a normal woman. But Ive decided to live by another truth. Muscle weighs more than fat (sort of sad but very true) but muscle also takes up a ton less space than fat. Thus, I may be a higher weight because I work out but Im also a smaller size at that weight...and my fat percentage is lower, my waist to hip ratio is smaller, and my overall health and fitness is better. I declare I will no longer be ruled by a number on a scale! Or a BMI number that in no way is a true indicator of my health status! Im a nurse and Ive seen fat skinny people who have type 2 diabetes and heart problems and healthy overweight people who are active and have no need for pharmaceutical intervention for anything. So...Im gonna stop worrying about numbers. Im not a number. Im a beautiful, smart, and healthy woman. And Im gonna start working out harder and smarter (with weights...lots of weights...gasp!) and this time next year I might weigh more...but Ill be stronger, Ill be smaller, and Ill be healthier than Ive ever been. And then Ill write a book and continue to defy those who say that my health and life should be defined by a number!!!
