Okay. Let me explain some quick math: Time we worked on this book - 8 months. Price of Magic Breaks in the US in e: $10.99. About a movie ticket and a soda. Percentage of money we get from each ebook sold in US at $10.99 - 25% of the net (not gross, we get percentage of publishers receipts after retailers take the cut) so about $1.50. Magic Breaks is our paycheck for most of the next year. We need to make money or we will no longer be able to write. if someone came up to us now and said, Hi, we would like to offer your book at $1.99, my question would be Do I still get $1.50 off each copy sold? If the answer is no, they can take a hike. This is a business. We work for free enough as is. The electronic version of Magic Breaks is already deeply discounted in US, almost $10 from the typical hardback price of $25.99. Because of the $10.99 price tag in US, even though we self-publish in UK, we are forced to maintain an equivalent price there, because things must be fair. We offer this promotion to UK readers, because UK readers do not have the same opportunity to obtain our book cheaply as US readers. US readers can buy MB second hand and can find it in their local library. UK readers cant. They have to order the printed version of the book from overseas. Basically, while US readers get discounts and promotions all the time, UK folks get no love. You got the $1.99 promotion, they didnt, now its their turn. Lets try not to begrudge your fellow human beings a little discount. PS. Ask yourself, if you try to do something nice and then people come up to you and complain about it, how likely are you to do the nice thing again? :)
