Okay, here is my rant for the day, and it is likely to make some people mad, but I hope it makes you think. I know that racism exists in a big way in America. I cannot deny that. The reality is that a few people make the rest of us white folk look bad by foolish rhetoric and hate speech. I wish it didn’t exist, but I’d be a fool to make that claim. What I would like to say is that, we’ve come a long way from where we once were with this subject. I’m always hearing from the black community how the system is built against them, and how they don’t have a chance to live the American dream because the general populous is biased against blacks. Well, I found a list of names that I’d like to share with you. These are just a few of the black people on that list that really did “Overcome.” They lived, and are living the dream that Dr. Martin Luther King spoke about. Athletes such as Hank Aaron, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Arthur Ashe, Charles Barkley, Wilt Chamberlain, Reggie Jackson, Michael Jordan, Jackie Joyner, Sugar Ray Leonard, Joe Louis, Jesse Owens, Jackie Robinson, Tiger Woods, Lou Brock, and my personal favorite athlete of all time, Bob Gibson. Then there are such writers as Pulitzer Prize winner Maya Angelou, who passed from this life just this past May.. Then there is Ralph Ellison, Alex Haley, Langston Hughes, Richard Wright, and many more writers of books and poetry. Civil rights Leaders, such as Martin Luther King Jr., Ella Baker, Stokely Carmichael, W.E.B. Dubois, Medgar Evers, and Marcus Garvey. Entertainers such as Bill Cosby, Sammy Davis Jr., James Earl Jones, Eddie Murphy, Spike Lee, Richard Prior, Sidney Poitier, Will Smith, Denzel Washington, and don’t forget about Billionaire Oprah Winfrey. My friends, say what you want, but every last one of these people have acquired a status in life that is greater than this poor white Ozark Hillbilly. And furthermore, there is no other nation on the planet where they could have obtained the status in life that they have enjoyed in America. We’re not perfect, but America, with all it’s present struggles remains the freest nation in the world, and there are opportunities available to people of all walks of life. Not all white people are racists. Most of us are caring, loving, people, and we are concerned about your struggles as well as our own. I said all of that to say this… We simply have too many other battles to fight in America to allow this division to exist among us. Islamic Extremists threaten us every day. ISIS promises that they are coming to America. We will never survive this next onslaught while at the same time having to deal with civil unrest and division. God help us all to open our minds and understand each other in a greater way, because we are all his prized creation. Love You All. Hope you’re having an amazing Sunday, and a spectacular Labor Day Weekend. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility Eph. 2;13,14
