Okay, new Doctor Who. Lets have a bit of a chat. For a long time, youve been one of my favorite shows. Youre weird and youre cheesy and your special effects are exactly the right kind of awful. And for a while it seemed like you knew what you were about. Ecclestons run was fun and bizarre and had stupid farting aliens, but it had some really neat ideas and some characters I just loved. Tennant continued that, with some better aliens, tighter scripts, more emotional weight, and just a better sense of what was what. Now, Smith had some good moments. In fact, his series were nothing *but* good moments, strung together with catch-phrases and half-hearted attempts at plot. But the characters were neat, at least! There were some really cool characters! Now were two full seasons in to Clara, one full season into Capaldis Doctor, and I cant help but feel youve lost your way. Capaldi is an amazing Doctor, but I feel hes being wasted on scripts that make me feel dumber for having heard them. Orient Express and Flatlanders were the only episodes that brought the show up from insipid nonsense, to barely passable. Those episodes were amazing. Everything else was rubbish, and I think you know it. Stop phoning it in, Doctor Who. Please. I want to love you.
