Okay, since people are apparently wanting to drag my name through - TopicsExpress

Okay, since people are apparently wanting to drag my name through the mud, here is my side of the story regarding Pebbles, the dog I helped Melanie Barrier “purchase.” I saw an ad on a local Facebook swap page advertising Pebbles for sell for $450. I took a screenshot and posted it to Craigslist Bulldogs in hopes a bully lover would see her and be able to take her in. The dog was also eventually posted to Craigslist. Melanie expressed interest in the dog, and I told her I would help transport if needed. Originally, Melanie said she was planning on being in Little Rock and wouldn’t need transport. Later, she came back and said she did need transport help and needed to get the dog to Dallas. Melanie said she wasn’t familiar with the bully train or how it worked, so I got on the Bully Train page and posted that we needed transport. I arranged transport to Dallas and also acted as the local contact person for Mr. Brooks, who was selling the dog as he lived near me. At one point Melanie told me she intended to get the dog and stop payment on the check -- i.e. she planned this out WELL IN ADVANCE. I told her I could not help her if that is what she was planning on doing. She told me she had talked to a friend and she was just going to eat the cost and that it would be fine because she was going to do an auction at the end of the month. Naively, apparently, I believed her. Melanie also asked me to lie and tell Mr. Brooks I knew her through her daughter. Before agreeing to pick up the dog, I set up a meeting with Mr. Brooks. I reported to Melanie that she had a mild issue with her eye -- either entropian, cherry eye, or allergies. As from the pictures, she did look like she needed to put on a little weight, and had a couple minor spots of skin problems. Melanie decided she was going to purchase the dog anyway, and said she was just afraid the dog would end up in the hands of a BYB if she did not do so. I met Mr. Brooks later that day and exchanged 2 checks Melanie had sent me for the dog. That was Wednesday, July 3. Pebbles stayed with me until I transported her to Little Rock on July 6. That night, I noticed a couple of fleas on her and some hives. I bathed her on Thursday and got rid of the fleas. I told Melanie I was going to give her Benadryl, but didn’t when I realized I didn’t have any Benadryl tabs at home. The hives were mostly gone by Saturday, anyway. On Friday night, I believe, my husband and I were outside by our fire pit and Pebbles was with us. She was standing next to the lid to the fire pit when my husband reached and picked it up. When he did so, she cowered like she was afraid she might get hit. In general, she was not afraid of my husband. I think it also might be relevant to note that Mr. Brooks only owned Pebbles for a year (by his account), so it is uncertain what her life was like before she came into his home. In my opinion, the issues I noticed with Pebbles were not severe, and most of them could be resolved with a high quality diet. In any event, if Melanie had no intention of paying for this dog, she needed to tell Mr. Brooks that up front, rather than lying about it. She also lied to me when she said she would not stop payment on that check. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask, rather than listen to second- and third-hand accounts. Thanks.
