Okay, so I have wanted to post something for a long time, but I didnt want to come across mean...There are so many of you that say I have movies for Joey or I have books for Joey. Please dont get offended when I say that he doesnt need them. First, Joey will expect a movie or a book every time he see you (even if it has been years since he has seen you he will remember that you gave him a book or movie). Second, see the trash can? That isnt even 1 days worth of the paper that he tears from the magazines (and dont say that he needs to be taught to not tear the books) we tried to teach him, but it is sensory for him. So please we have enough paper to pick up. Third see all of the movies on the floor? That isnt all of them, see the drawers on the left side of him? All of those are filled with movies. I have 2 large totes full of movies in the attic and 1 large tote in the building outside, if Joey knew that those were in the vicinity, then they would be in his room. I make him clean up his room and put all of his movies in the drawers every single day and within two, 2, minutes they are all back out, because to an autistic like Joey, his room is clean if he can see all of his possessions. So please dont get offended when we say no he doesnt need them. If you want to do something for Joey then pick up a VCR at a yard sale whenever you see them as they are getting few and far between. And when one stops working we have a major, major meltdown. So please take this from a mom with an autistic son...dont get offended, because you will break my sons heart when you have told him you have something for him and the next time you see him you dont have it because he does not forget what you told him. You get to go home and not have to face the meltdown like we do for hours and hours....
