Okay so for those of you who know I make cute little clay dragons. I have been thinking and pondering over a new name for my Business. Since it sorta sputtered out early this year do to my health issues, money problems, etc. So I figured with this new event I am appearing at with Jessica E McMullen on Nov. 6th, what better time to re-invent my little dragon guys, then there, with an influx of new potential customers? So here is my idea, and I would truly love some constructive criticism here. Because sometimes I get all caught up in my own imaginary world and need a swift kick in the reality butt. So here it goes. I am going to Call my Business "Phaedrus Dragons" It will operate under one single philosophy. You see Phaedrus is an excerpt from the works of Plato. In this story the scholar Socrates approaches King Thamus, and presents to im this new invention called "Writing" Socrates tells King Thamus that his new invention "will improve both the wisdom and memory of the Egyptians". King Thamus is skeptical of this new invention and rejects it as a tool of recollection rather than retained knowledge. He argues that the written word will infect the Egyptian people with fake knowledge as they will be able to attain facts and stories from an external source and will no longer be forced to mentally retain large quantities of knowledge themselves. So what if I start taking each dragon I make, examining it and attach to it a piece of knowledge written down on aged paper, and rolled it up like a scroll. That way when they purchase a Dragon, they are also getting a nugget of knowledge. For example, I have a Dragon that looks like autumn leaves are scattered upon his back, with him, you would receive a small piece of paper (1 -2 inches wide) with him all rolled up like a secret scroll that reads: Lunasa - Gaelic for the first day of August, which is the beginning of Autumn in Ireland. Okay, I need your input here. Ready, Set.... Go.
