Okay so just reported another scam to ScamWatch, which is an Australian body trying to prevent these crimes. Apparently, there is NO WAY to get your money back (or in fact do anything about it) if you end up falling for scams and sending money to scammers overseas. This scam was pretty new. I kept getting calls from the ATO, telling me that there was an arrest warrant (with warrant id: 20963WA) out for my name because, according to their audit, they had found out that I owed $996.39. The only two options I had were to either pay using a government approved money transfer card at a post office, or be arrested, deported back to my native country and/or spend 3 years in a detention centre at Canberra. All of this was done with fake accent (obviously some idiot from the sub continent). There is no authority in Australia that can do anything about this if you actually do end up sending money, apart from just taking note of what happened. So stay alert and let other people know.
