Okay, so once in a while I play some disco... Veteran R&B arranger/producer Van McCoy earned his first Gold record for the Disco smash, The Hustle in June of 1975. It turned out to be the biggest dance craze of the decade and resulted in McCoy being named Top Instrumental Artist of 1975 by Billboard magazine. According to producers Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore, who owned the Avco record label that originally released the song, McCoy met with them shortly before his death in 1979 to discuss ideas for a new, longer version of the song. It was in order to appease Avcos UK and German affiliates who were clamoring for a 12 disco single release. The new version, clocking in at just under 6-and-a-half minutes, was assembled posthumously as a remix. Heres the version that never received airplay in the U.S.
