Okay, this would be, in particular, for Debbie Hostetler Keller and Elaine Lassley-Evans. Did I do the man proud on Page 27? Are you impressed that I remembered? Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. - Proverbs 1:23 Dr. Song Nai Rhee was one of the most brilliant individuals that I ever met. Owner of five doctorates and counting (in 1981) Dr. Rhee taught Old Testament to the freshman class at Northwest Christian University (then known as NCC). He told his class within the first week of the Fall quarter that the Old Testament could be broken down into two concepts. The first was the concept of “hesed” or lovingkindness. God’s “hesed” for us is paramount from the beginning of time and the reason for the incarnation of Jesus Christ. The second concept that he taught was that of “turning.” The Old Testament is filled with stories and passages in which mankind is supposed to “turn.” We are to turn away (from sin) and we are to turn toward (God). The thrust and message of the 39 books of the Old Testament were explained by “loving-kindness” and “turning.”
