Okay, well, the Boston globe weighs in on the notion of a double government. Now before you label them (or me) as some leftist elitist, or worse, someone who is unpatriotic, let us not forget our founding fathers, who did not trust the uneducated masses. Yes, according to our founding fathers, the price of stability is keeping the irrational masses a bay. Consider the famous quip by Thomas Jefferson, that a well-informed citizenry is the only true repository of the public will. Sounds great, right? And so does this by Jefferson, from his Notes on the State of Virginia in which he wrote that, government degenerates when trusted to the ruler of the people alone. But theres problem. Jeffersons on again/off again friend, John Adams, called us poor, ignorant, malicious, short-sighted, crapulous mass. Thats why voting was limited to landowners, who had a proper education; they feared the uneducated masses. Apparently, according to American History scholar, John Fea, such negative views have the support of psychological research, for David Dunning from Cornell University and Justin Krugar, a Cornell graduate, note that incompetent people are not able to judge what competence is nor recognize it when the see it. Sadly, their study indicates that most of Americans are incompetent.
