Okay, you have an opening to run a university system with 200,000 students and a $14 billion budget. What sort of CV are you looking for among your top candidates? How about this for a qualification thatll (kind of literally) blow you away? The men under your oversight in your previous job, killed five civilians, including two pregnant women, in a botched raid on an Afghan village, Khataba, and allegations followed that they had tried to eliminate evidence of what had happened. That and other episodes have generated some criticism of [the candidate], notably in the Oscar-nominated documentary film Dirty Wars. A few months after the raid, [he] visited Khataba, presented two sheep to a family patriarch as an act of contrition, and asked his forgiveness — unusual behavior for an officer with stars on his shoulders. Yes, were talking about Adm. William H. McRaven, commander of U.S. Special Operations forces, and as the above quote shows, a completely stand-up guy, perfect really for running the Texas University system. (It is Texas after all!) I mean who wouldnt want to hire a man whose background is largely secret and mostly had to do with killing and preparations for the same for a giant scholarly institutional system? You know, in Texas politics, the knives are always out and its well known that at universities, everybody has it in for everybody. So grade A choice Texas regents and congrats!
