They were fighting for their country but for what they werent quiet sure. The preppies went to college because they were the Senators sons and the poor boys got their education in the rice fields with a gun.(chorus) old soldiers never die. They just fade away. (2) in sixty nine was a trying time for the land of the free. They were burning their draft cards and disgracing old glory. There was freedom of religion ,speech and of press. You could wear your hair long with a tattoo on your chest. (3) its 40 plus years later now and further down the road, but old glory still flies high in those old soldiers souls. We lost a lot of good men and we still lose them today. When its midnight the fog of war comes and the dreams wont go away.
