Old Timey BBQ I see this almost everyday, and almost everyday I - TopicsExpress

Old Timey BBQ I see this almost everyday, and almost everyday I plan to stop and take a pic; but, the day seems to never allow it. Well, yesterday, I forced myself to stop. It was rewarding...although I only had the 105, 2.8 and the 70-200mm, 2.8 on me...I still captured a really nice shot. But, more importantly, I got to meet a man, and old man...a man whose face tells you that time has forgotten him. A man, who in another time, would not have welcomed me on his property...a gentle man. An honorable man. I stopped...this is right off of the road. No one was around. I stood next to the truck and looked down a long dirt driveway to where a residential section was cordoned off by wooden fence. Soon, from nowhere it seemed, a middle-aged man appeared. I explained how I wanted to take pictures of this truck. He obliged but informed it that it was not his property. Almost like magic, two old ladies appeared from behind the wood-gated fence, they were all standing in at the rear of the long driveway some 50 yards away. They walked slowly towards me, reservedly I could tell. I started walking towards them, with camera raise high above my head. I greeted them in a loud voice to and attempted to express my intentions long before their feelings of threat would settle in. I explained how I liked the nostalgic look of their property and asked again if I could take some pictures. Their faces lit up...soon theirs hands were outstretched to shake mind. Befuddled, Im like whoa...they then offered to allow me to go inside their dilapidated little Cracker Barrel type restaurant and take pictures of it. I rescheduled and gladly promised to return. Midway in the driveway now... I look back towards the fence, and now about 10 people emerged, all in old, rugged-like clothing. And for some reason, Deliverance was starting to enter in my mind...still holding my camera raise high, I began explain and make the same said request to the group as I cleverly back-peddled towards my car, while the two little old ladies were walking towards my car too. They repeatedly gave me permission with smiles on their faces, so I began shooting. Soon, I was surrounded by the gang. But, my nerves had subsided, probably because I was both close to the road and close to my car as well. After a few shots, a young man introduced me to the Patron leader. He was old, skinning and frail looking. His face weathered...track and divots of time reveal a hard long life. After listening to his story about a man named Timey would sold him the property and who drove the truck, and how later when he died (Mr. Timey) that this man left the truck there in his honor. And, how no money, no money, could get him to sell the truck. Soon, we were the only two left at the corner near the front talking. I felt comfortable and we talked for a long while. He ended up saying, I like you, young fella, come back anytime. I got a old railroad track inside, the small kind, you can take pictures of that too..e back and see me ya here. Yes sir, I sure will. Made my day...Made My DAY!! Did I say, it MADE MY DAY!!!! D7000, ISO 1250, F/6.3, 1/80,70mm.
