Oldboy: 59 out of 100: Spike Lee can direct some excellent, memorable films but this isnt one of them. Although interesting at times, this thriller is lacking a major ingredient and that is it has minimal thrills. The numerous close-ups of the actors could be considered headache inducing with some truly bizarre camera angles as well. The action scenes were well played out when there was action on the screen but that was infrequent. Well acted by Josh Brolin as the troubled lead, the same cannot be said for Sharlto Copley who lacked emotion in both his acting and voice presence. One would expect better from Spike Lee. Perhaps he should stick to the African American character pieces that he is renowned for.
