{Older Devotional. Dont let the world keep you separated from the things of God. Always listen carefully, and pray and follow God in all circumstances.} Hearing God is a difficult topic for a lot of Christians. Many may feel that God is silent, while others may feel like they cant hear God. Some even believe that God doesnt speak to us. The truth is, God DOES speak to us and it is NOT that God is silent. To a point, people really cant hear God speaking to them. What I mean by that is that God is always there to guide us and speak to us, but unless we do one simple thing, we cant hear. “And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, Here I am, for you called me. Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy. Therefore Eli said to Samuel, Go, lie down, and if he calls you, you shall say, “Speak, Lord, for your servant hears.” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.” [1 Samuel 3:8, 9 ESV] During this time (according to 1 Samuel 3:1) God did not often give people visions or speak to people. In these verses (8 and 9) Samuel hears God. He heard God speaking to him 3 times before Eli saw that he was hearing Gods voice. What Eli told Samuel to do is what I am focusing on here. He wanted Samuel to lay down and listen, and if he heard, reply. A lot of times, we get caught up in the things we are doing and we dont listen. Well pray and ask God to speak to us, then not listen. Then, if we hear something, we blow it off as our own thoughts. We need to really, truly listen for the voice of the Lord. “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” [John 10:27, 28 ESV] Sometimes we may be hearing Gods voice and not even realize it. If you feel as though God is speaking to you or you hear His voice, there is two things you should check: does it line up with scripture, and is it correct? God will never contradict Himself. If what you hear seems to line up with scripture, then it could be God speaking to you. The only way to finally check is to listen to what it says. If its a command, do it. God will most certainly bless you for obedience. If it turns out to not be God speaking to you, there is one last thing you can do. “Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.” [John 8:47 ESV] Jesus put it rather bluntly here. If we really want to hear God, we need to stop being divided from God. We need to abandon the things that hold us back from Him and truly seek after Him. We need to have a real relationship with Him to truly hear Him speak to us. If you are wanting to hear Gods voice, yet you are living just like the rest of the world, hearing Him is going to be much harder. If you have a friend that is a half mile away, it would be nearly impossible to hear them. Even at 1/10 of a mile, they would be hard to hear, but the closer you get to them, the better you can hear them! The same principle applies with God. If we want to hear Him speak to us, we need to be closer to Him. God loves you and He wants you to be able to hear Him speak. Work closer to God and make sure you are listening closely. God will speak to you! #GodLovesYou #JesusLovesYou #God #Jesus #Christ #JesusChrist #Christianity #Hear #Listen #GodsVoice #Samuel #Eli {Questions or comments, let me know below or tweet me @ZealFireDevo!
