Oldtimer said, Self-seeking will slip away. As we practice unconditional giving with newcomers in the fellowship, we come to learn the value of freely giving of ourselves. Everyday is a day we must carry the vision of Gods will into all of our activities. So long as we live in the spirit of this vision, we no longer live for ourselves first and foremost. We live to give to others and find that our New Employer does indeed provide what we need so long as we do His work well. And in spite of our belief to the contrary, we find that our lives actually do depend on the constant thought of others, and the selfless giving that accompanies it. For years we lived as a slave to misery, depression, terror, bewilderment, frustration and despair. And it seemed the more we sought release and comfort from these maladies through the satisfaction of our instincts, the deeper we sank into the bitter morass of the addictive pit. Self-seeking availed us nothing, but it was all that we knew. This was the cycle of hopelessness in which we found ourselves when we came to the program. We stood at the turning point and we were taught a way of life that ran counter to our instincts, yet it provided the elements of a way of life that gets infinitely more wonderful as time passes. We experienced the joy of giving of ourselves and expecting nothing in return. We were reluctant at first, but as we saw this work in others, and then in ourselves, we learned giving was the way to a happy, joyous and free existectence in Gods economy where we bring hope to the hopeless, help to the helpless, faith to the fearful, strength to the weak and light to those who dwell in the darkness of self!
