Olivia just asked me if I know about the animals that are going extinct. She asked me about the bad hunters who are using the animals for their parts. Then she says how upset it makes her and that she wants to put up signs so people know this is wrong. Then she begins to talk about how the stores are full of animals that are killed for their body but nobody buys the meat . . .She says passionately; its WASTEFUL! She is almost crying when she says - its just NOT right. It is DISRESPECTFUL to nature. They are killing nature cause animals are nature. Did you know the tigers are almost extinct?!! She reminded me of myself as a teen, when I watched a David Suzuki show on the use of rabbits for cosmetics testing. I was suddenly overcome with rage and grief. I remember sobbing, wailing and pounding the couch over something I could not fathom or make sense of. I felt the rabbit in all of my being. I was in pain simply by watching. Today I saw this passion rise in my daughter, at the age of 7. We are not self proclaimed anything - vegan or vegetarian or otherwise, although we lean to this lifestyle naturally. I do not speak to my daughter about this stuff, as I want to allow for her own unfolding and beliefs to surface without my influence. This blew me away today to witness how deeply she feels and is expressing her concerns about life and nature. She is growing up. She is asking question. And sometimes, all I can do is hug her and say I know hunny, it isnt right and we are beginning to work together. There are problems in the world that need fixing
