On April 14, 1931, the bodies of four members of the Chicago Fire Department who died in the line of duty fighting a fire in a sewer tunnel were recovered. Capt. Timothy O’Neill, Truck 14; FF Edward Byron Pratt, Squad 8; and FF William Coyne and FF William Karstens, Engine 23; along with seven sewer workers; died in a 450 foot sewer tunnel that was under construction 35 feet below the intersection of 22nd and Laflin Streets in Chicago. 3 3 5 Never Forgotten-Rest in Peace The Chicago Tribune shares this photo gallery:
