On April 15, 2013, two explosions rocked the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three and injuring dozens more. At the time, Mayor Thomas Menino, who had a long history of health issues, was hospitalized with a broken leg. But not even a severe injury could keep him from the people of Boston. Days later at a memorial service, Menino turned to his son and said, “Tommy…I’m the mayor. Wheel me to the pulpit. I’m going to stand up.”
