On April 2, I will have custody of my grandson for one year. During this year, we have struggled with behaviors, mood swings, inattention, suspensions, an IEPs at school all because he was labelled with ADHD. I find it interesting now that he carries a new diagnosis of Aspergers Disease, I have people coming out of the woodwork and far off places offering to help us understand and cope with his illness. It is sad that complete and thorough testing was not done on him for 11 years. It is even more sad that he has not been understood or accepted because he is JUST a kid with ADHD. Moral of this diatribe...dont accept what everyone says as gospel when it comes to your kids and those you love who are displaying symptoms of ADHD. It may be the difference between being ignored and brushed off to receiving treatment and acceptance.
