On August 25th, 1974, I was ordained PRESBYTER of the Catholic Church in the Congregation of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Bishop Antonino Nepomuceno, OMI was the ordaining prelate. I chose Bishop Nep as my ordaining Prelate, because of two things: First, Bishop Nep was passionately involved in the work of Peace and Justice; Second, he was the first pioneer in the work that brought together Catholic Protestant and Muslim Leaders on behalf of the poor and the marginalized during the harsh Martial Law years. I felt I was called for these two ministries... and I pray to God that the mantle of the these two unpopular ministries in the Church as demonstrated by Bishop Nep would be my inheritance... Tomorrow,August 25th - Monday, I invite my friends in and around Cotabato to celebrate with me the 40th Jubilee of my Presbyteral Ordination. Mass is at 6:00 am at the OND Chapel in Marian Hills at Broce with Fr.Phil Estrella, OMI as Homilist. A simple breakfast follows (7 am) 40 years ago, I issued the two stampitas to mark the special date... At the back of the Stampita is the quote from Luke 4: 18-19: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim the release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. The Lord has been GOOD... and has been faithful to his promise all these years... In this jubilee year of my ordination, I sing his praise and give him thanks for his love and mercy endure forever... The first image tells that Jesus is the King and Center of all hearts... The second image tells that Jesus is the source of life and holiness... To my family , friends, colleagues and comrades... SALAMAT!
