On BBC Radio 5 Live at 5.45 pm today (I think) talking about why Coding is not the new Latin and should not be seen as a core subject in schools. At least Latin was one language, there are hundreds of programming languages. When the Telegraph was invented there was a push to teach everyone morse code. This turned out to be a huge waste of time, as the vast majority of people simply needed to write English that was transcribed by a relatively few number of good Telegraph operators.
