On December 23rd 2014 at approximately 12:30 pm, the Vallejo Police Department responded to the 1400 block of Vervais Street on a report of a robbery that had just occurred. Arriving officers met with a 69 year old female victim. As the victim got out of her car, the suspect ran up to the victim and forcibly knocked her to the ground. The suspect grabbed the victims purse and fled the area in a blue Honda SUV. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of this incident. Vallejo Police Officers noted similarities to a prior strong arm robbery that had occurred on December 12th 2014, on the 500 block of Ohio Street at approximately 5:35 pm. This robbery involved a 70 year old female victim from Vallejo and in this particular case, the victim sustained injuries requiring medical treatment. On December 23rd at approximately 9:10 pm, officers were patrolling in the area of Georgia St @ the Interstate 80 overpass, when they located a vehicle which matched the description provided to officers in a department bulletin. The suspect vehicle fled from officers and violated numerous traffic laws, in an attempt to elude capture. The suspect fled to the area of Woodvale Court and Hale Street, where the driver lost control and struck a stop sign. An officer utilized a Pursuit Intervention Technique which helped disable the suspects vehicle. The suspect abandoned the vehicle, fleeing on foot. A search of the neighborhood was conducted and officers eventually located the suspect hiding in the rear yard of a residence on the 600 block of Henry Street. Officers also located a loaded handgun in the immediate area which is believed to have been in the possession of the fleeing suspect. The suspect, identified as Frederick Francisco Ferrando, a 36 year old Fairfield resident was charged with 2nd degree robbery, possession of a controlled substance while armed, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, carrying a concealed firearm on his person and felony evading and resisting arrest. Ferrando also had an outstanding felony warrant from Solano County for burglary with a bail amount at $75,000.
