On Friday, I was fortunate to attend the YMCAs Annual Leader - TopicsExpress

On Friday, I was fortunate to attend the YMCAs Annual Leader Luncheon. For more than a century, the YMCA Utah has advanced the well-being of women in strategic and important ways. Their enduring belief is that better lives for women lead to stronger families and communities. On any given night 200 women and children call the YMCA home. The keynote speaker of the evening was former US Senator, Olympia Snow (R: Maine), who shared her experiences of more than 40 years in elected public office. She shared that her job was to solve problems and pointed out that Congress has lost sight of this fundamental role and responsibility in their governance. She spoke about political partisanship and polarization being at an all time high with representatives retreating into their political foxholes, denying America and Americans the opportunity to fulfill our greatest potential. Olympia Snow went on to recommend 4 changes for our system: 1) Filibuster reform 2) 5 day work weeks for Congress again. She said the house was only in session 118 days and the Senate 117. Six hours of debate on involvement in Syria is not enough. 3) Open primaries and all congressional primaries held on the same day 4) Vote--silence is not golden. We all have a voice and we must use the power of our voice. We dont want more of the same. We cannot afford it. Please LIKE and SHARE if you too support reform in Congress and citizen led initiatives to improve the accountability of Congress. The most powerful tool we have is our vote. Effective, ethical, functional and problem solving leadership is only a vote away for Utah. I commit to being part of the solution - not the problem. Not Left. Not Right. Forward!
