On Friday, Senate Republicans blocked a plan to freeze student loan interest rates. With already skyrocketing student loans set to double to 6.8% on July 1, Congress’ failure to act would force an even greater burden on student borrowers – at a time when they can least afford it. If we don’t hold rates at 3.4%, students will pay up to $1,000 a year more. This makes it more difficult to invest in a home, a business or a family. This sets students’ lives back. We can act, right now, to hold these rates exactly where they are until we work out a long-term solution. But we need Senate Republicans to join in that effort. It’s going to require us to put some heat on them by making our voices heard. Will you speak out alongside me and tell Senate Republicans: don’t double students rates? Click here to call on Senate Republicans to join with us in keeping student-loan interest rates low. Our students are counting on it. We’re down to just 18 days to act. If we don’t act, more than seven million students will see their rates go up – including over 400,000 in New York alone. The cost to their futures and our economy will be severe. We can’t let it happen. Together, we can make Senate Republicans hear us loud and clear when we say: #dontdoubletheirrates. Add your voice now.
