On Friday, the First Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Martin & Hipple client Carla Gericke, holding that Carlas right to record police at her friends traffic stop was self-evident, based on first principles of First Amendment law. The officers had argued that the right to record should not extend to traffic stops. This historical and precedent-setting opinion further ensures that officers who retaliate against people for recording will face consequences. We are very proud of this historic ruling and will continue to fight for the proposition that on the job means on the record. A link to the opinion itself is below in the comments.
