On July 23rd at Autry State Prison, staff gathered to witness the swearing-in and graduation of five inmate fire fighters who had completed the basic training and testing requirements to obtain their Fire Fighter 1 MPQ certification. The theme for the graduation was: “Building Professional Minds for Professional Futures”. Graduating were inmates: Brandon Applewhite, Dexter Brown, Gary Burden, Raymond Revills, and Randall Hewitt. Autry State Prison’s Inmate Fire Team responds to at least 300 calls per year involving house fires, brush fires, and automobile accidents within the Mitchell, Grady, Thomas, Colquitt, Baker, and Decatur Counties.
