On July 3, 2013 Egypt’s Armed Forces removed the country’s first ever freely elected civilian president, held him incommunicado by security forces in an undisclosed location and suspended the constitution. This coup has set a bad precedent for the future of budding democracies all over the world. We believe in the democratic process, in the peaceful rotation of power and in the legitimacy of elected presidents who should only be removed through the ballot box. Countries supporting democracy have already stated that they will neither recognize the interim president installed by the army coup, nor his government. Whatever your country or nationality, if you believe in democracy and support its principles, let your voice be heard. Make a difference by signing the adjacent petition.
