On MLK Day, as we celebrate diversity, we proudly remember Clemsons #IntegrationWithDignity when Harvey Gantt became the universitys first African-American student in January of 1960. While we are sure they were not perfect we can be very proud of the way the way the forefathers of our university handled that day. As for the brave young Mr. Gantt. He graduated from Clemson with a degree in architecture in 1965. Harvey received a masters degree in City Planning from MIT in 1970. In 1974, Gantt was elected the Charlotte City Council where he served three terms. Then in 1983, he became Charlottes first black mayor serving the city for two terms. https://youtube/watch?v=PThPNVqIFuQ
