On May 2nd, AATW Song-a-day waves the Polish flag, which for several centuries has been red and white--since way back in the Piast Dynasty, a thousand years ago--and features a red shield with an image of white eagle wearing a crown. Poles celebrate Flag Day on May 2 because during the Soviet Era all Polish flags were lowered on that day to minimize celebration of May 3rd Constitution Day, which marked a democratic constitution passed in Poland in 1791, and which the Communists banned. We enjoy the day with Garnitur Spod Igly, a tongue-in-cheek song about class differences from Polands anti-Soviet Solidarity movement. Listen here: bit.ly/1kuiuAV
