On Mike Kintgen s timeline, with Jay Akerley and others, we were discussing weather swings-- we dont get the kind of swings Denver does-- at least we dont get the sustained mid-winter warm-ups they do-- our warmest temps are often only for a couple of hours in the afternoon, so we can have a seemingly warm stretch and still have a lot of snow on the ground (along with a lot of bare patches....) and nights well below freezing; I looked up some statistics for comparison.. For Rocky Mountain House (20 miles west/north of me) 1971-2000 had extreme temperatures for January of -41C and +16C, for February -44C and +19C.....for Eckville, 11 miles east/north for 1971 to 2000 had extreme temperatures for January of -46C and +14C, for February, -43C and +19; If the statistics went farther in either direction, not sure if the highs would be higher, but quite sure the lows would be lower farther back in time.. climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/results_e.html?stnID=1962&lang=e&StationName=rocky+&SearchType=Contains&stnNameSubmit=go&dCode=0
